“At Conceito we focus on time and distance. The time comes a long time ago, it was already in the forties that the family vineyards began. The distance is no less, the Douro Superior has always been far from everything. Modernity has compressed all of this.
Distances and times can be resolved into simple solutions. Roads, access, proximity. We had the dream of bottling the mixture of our sun and our soil, and taking this terroir to the whole world. Love for our land, love for our work.
Suddenly, our wines, the synthesis of our place and our dedication, traveled the world and were poured into glasses on tables everywhere. We traveled with them, always looking forward to returning home. From each trip we brought a new dream, a new ambition. Sometimes a friendship, other times a wine, a project on another continent, a new learning that merges with that of our land.
The distance is shorter today, and time is projected into the future. In each bottle we put aside, knowing that there will be more in a year, then in five, then in ten. Then, wait these ten years to cherish the wait, serenely enjoy our conviction. Always one foot in the Douro, always our heritage, this pride and this responsibility. Portugal in the world, charting new routes across the seas, taking our land with us.
In a vortex, time and distance blur, only one emotion remains, a chill. Concept.”
A red Douro from Rita Ferreira Marques aka Conceito Wines, a cutting-edge Portuguese producer. This is a blend of biodynamic Touriga Franca 40%, Touriga Nacional 30% and Tinta Roriz 30% from 40+ year old vines.
Ruby color, with violet nuances. It has an intense and complex aroma, with notes of black fruits and red fruits, combined with a cocoa aroma. In the mouth, it has a good volume, round tannins and well integrated acidity. The notes of red fruits and light cocoa stand out. The finish is long and very elegant.
This wine will go well with a hearty winter beer braised venison roast or Portuguese Peri Peri chicken livers and fresh sourdough bread to soak up the last morsels ie. bold strong foods, bbq meats, roasted lamb, oxtails, stews, strong cheese.
